Photographing the Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) workshop at Gibney was so inspiring.
DEL’s educational approach, the DEL Model, is so kind and thoughtful. It feels like a model for life, not just a model of teaching dance.
It felt really nice to be a part of it, and to participate by bringing my own gift.
For members of Gibney Company, DEL is a part of their professional development experience. I think that’s awesome.
On the second day, I got to witness DEL work with Gibney Pro, Gibney’s pre-professional program. Watching these young artists go deeper into their work through the DEL Model was really inspiring to me. These young artists are making their way in New York City—some are already dancing professionally—and all of them are looking to make their lives in dance and in the arts. Seeing them working together at the beginning of their careers is such an honor.
I hadn’t been to Gibney’s space in a few years, and it was really wonderful to be back.
I’ve never been a dancer, but I just feel like these are my people. The energy, excitement, professionalism, learning, auditioning, rehearsing, chatting in the lunch area… I love the dance world.
